After race, picked up pizza and pop and sat down at a table across from Jim! Watched DJ start "Born in the USA" and hand out US flags - lots of flags waving during song and no Tea Party in sight. Really cool!

We have talked about going up to Frankenmuth early and seeing the fireworks the night before and finally did it. We met my son's and daughter's families for dinner Friday night in Frankenmuth at Zenders, watched the fireworks, got to the hotel just before midnight, and got up early for the 10k. Jerry and I decided to run the 1ok with Sean, because he was not training and couldn't do the 20k. We were glad we did. It was cool at the start, but warmed up fast. As we left we could see the 20k runners come in and they looked frazzled.
Sean ran with me and I kept a slow steady pace. The course was hilly. A policeman held up traffic and there was a long line of cars we were passing when a disgruntled old lady pulled out and was passing the line. Then a young woman tried the same and hit the vehicle in front of her and kept hitting it.Bizarre!
We picked up the pace in the last mile and as I was coming down the last hill, the Hanson runners were walking up. I had my Hanson singlet on and they yelled "Go Hanson!" And, Brian Sell? At the bottom of the hill, Keith Hanson high fived me!! Pretty cool for an old guy!
The announcer said Sean's name as we crossed the finish line and Jerry was 5th in age group, 90 seconds from third place and a stein.

Offered to get vehicle and drive her home but she declined and walked 4 miles home. Got passed by rollerblader in straw hat. Caught her after 5 miles walking and bloodied. Ran ahead to boatlauch and got out first aid kit. Phone rang, youngest and family at my house, come home. Patched up skater and went home to see grandson.

Sunday, February 21, 2010

Stoney Creek

I ran 8 miles with Disco this morning without having to stop. I put a bandage on the inside of my foot to prevent rubbing and turning numb. Weather was in the 30's and pleasant. We ran on the bike path to the entrance to the park and back to finish the loop around the lake. If I run alone, I won't put a bandage on so a callous forms.

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Rest Period

I have started a 2 week rest period, not that I need the rest, but my schedule starts serious training in 2 weeks, so I back off. I use an 84 day training period with 2 weeks off before the next period. I'm keying on the Harrisburg, Pa. marathon in November, so I have 3 training periods to get ready. Besides, the weather stinks!

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Stoney Creek

Ran 6 miles by myself at the park.30 degrees and cloudy. The road and bike path are clear, so lots of bikes out and one rollerblader. I felt warm compared to all the ice fishermen.

Monday, January 18, 2010

Coaching

I recieved help for my computer from a 30 year old man in India who had a mild heart attack, and I encouraged him to take up running and join the Cardiac Forum. I've sent him a beginning running schedule and now I'm coaching someone in India! Cool.

Rochester

I met Disco at the duck pond and we ran 4 miles easy in the park and surrounding neighborhood. 27 degrees and a little ice.

Monday, January 11, 2010

2010

I'm planning to run 6 1/2 marathon distances this year with marathon training. If I'm in marathon shape, I should have good 1/2 marathons. I hope to meet the good people on the Cardiac Athletes forum in November at the Harrisburg, PA Marathon. I'll probably do the relay, but you never know, I might pull a Brett Farve and run the full. The weather is typical January in Mich. and I'll use the treadmill this week. There is a race in Flushing Sat. and the forecast looks good so I'll think about it.

Saturday, January 9, 2010

Home

After a 4+ inch snowfall Thursday night, I cleared 3 driveways and 2 roofs, and ran 20 minutes on the treadmill. I used the Nordic Trac ski machine, and lifted weights. Total time - 30 minutes. It's Sat. morning and 13 degrees out, so I'll wait until the afternoon and decide to go to the park or train at home. I watch a replay of the Boston Marathon while I'm on the treadmill, so I'm running with the Kenyans!

2009

I finished with 743 miles, a little light. Though I was in good shape and lost 19 pounds, I was in better shape last year. Looking for a better year in 2010.

Pettit Center

We drove to Jerry's house New Years Eve to see all the Wisconsin family for Christmas. Sat. morning dawned at 0 degrees and I wasn't running outside in that so Jerry and I drove to the Pettit Center, an olympic speedskating facility with a track around the rink. We ran on a rubber track on concrete that was so hard I concentrated on running soft for an hour.
